Student Rights & Responsibilities

While cell phones and other devices have many benefits, they can be a distraction to student learning and harmful to mental wellbeing. Beginning in fall 2023, school policy at all schools is to keep phones and personal devices “off and away the entire day”. Parents who need to communicate with students during the school day can reach out to them on their school email or call the school’s front office.

Student Life: Athletics & Activities

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of student life at CMS. Students are encouraged to develop skills and explore interests through sports, clubs, tutoring, and music programs.  An after-school activities bus provides transportation to students.

Athletics

CMS Athletics offers year-round sports: fall (football, volleyball, cheer), winter (basketball, swimming), spring (baseball, softball, track). 8th graders may try out for JV teams. The program builds skills, teamwork, leadership, and academic focus.

Theater

CMS Theatre offers a yearlong class and after-school program. Students earn awards at Virginia Theatre Association events and perform in school shows, community events, and summer camps. They also lead a student-produced video announcement series.

Music Program

CMS students have the option of enrolling in a selection of music classes including chorus, orchestra, band. Music classes are offered during the regular school day, but there may be occasions when music practice is also scheduled after school in preparation for upcoming performances.
