CMS ATHLETICS
Young Knight athletics include football, volleyball, cheer, basketball, swimming, track, softball & baseball. Eighth graders can also try out for CHS JV teams. Major emphasis is devoted to sportsmanship, healthy competition, and becoming a positive team player.

What's New With CMS Sports
Winter Sports Tryouts- The Week of November 17th
All Winter Sports (except swim) will have tryouts during the week of November 17th. Any 6th, 7th or 8th grader can tryout.
Winter Sports
- Girls Basketball One Day Only
- Tuesday, Nov. 18th from 3:30-5:30 pm in the CMS Gym
- Boys Basketball One Day Only
- Monday, Nov 17th from 3:30-5:30 pm in the CMS Gym
- Cheer- 3 Day Tryout
- Monday-Wednesday, Nov 17th-19th from 4:15-6:15 pm at CHS in the back gym.
- Any student trying out for cheer can take the afternoon activity bus from CMS to CHS.
- Swim- 8th graders only
- 8th graders wanting to participate in swim can practice with CHS’s JV team at the YMCA.
- 6th and 7th graders may be able to start swim practices in January.
Any one trying out for any sport must have a VHSL physical on file to participate in tryouts.
Winter Swim News
Swim for Charlottesville Middle School is on hold for right now. We may have a facility to use starting in January. Once we have an update we will post it here and let families know, via ParentSquare.
8th graders who are interested in swim may attend JV practices with the CHS team. For more information, please reach out to Mr. Walters.

Boys and Girls Basketball Conditioning Dates
Basketball Conditioning is starting in October!
All conditioning days will be from 3:30-5:30 pm in the CMS gym.
You must have a VHSL physical on file to participate in conditioning.

Student Eligibility & Forms
To be eligible for a sport, a student must maintain passing grades in all classes. There will be weekly grade checks. See Athletic Handbook for details.
Transportation
Students staying after school for activities may ride the activity school bus home. School buses are also provided for student athletes going to CHS for practice. An activity bus will leave CHS after practice times to drop students off at various stops around the city.
To be able to ride home from games with another family, students must have a “Permission to Ride” form on file.
